HOMEWORK

Homework will be given to children on Mondays to be completed during the week.  We ask you please, to check that this task is done.  Children will be kept at lunchtimes to complete their tasks, if not completed at home.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Something for the children to look forward to at the end of the year - we have booked 'Camp Ngaruawahia' for a week, Monday 10th December - Friday 14th December.  Details will come later

UNIT STUDY
Te Tiriti O Waitangi
Students are learning about the treaty.  They should be able to tell when the treaty was signed, where it was signed and who were involved.  Retelling events up to the signing also are included in this unit.

Social Relationships, Rules, Responsibilities and Traffic
Students are learning about rules and responsibilities in class.  They should know the consequences of breaking rules.  They are also identifying problems and ways of solving them.
They are recognising specific road signs.  Learning about obeying traffic rules and some traffic hazards to watch out for.

Colonial Life
Year 7/8 students are learning about life of the colonial pioneers of New Zealand.  They will be visiting Howick Colonial Village on the 22nd/23rd March, to observe, lifestyles of colonial living, comparing life then to now.

TECHNOLOGY

The Senior Syndicate (Y7/8) students have technology every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:30 - 2:30pm.  During this time students have the opportunity to do several different activities like, woodwork, electronics, food technology, graphic arts, music, dance & drama, art and careers.

LANGUAGES
All children in this syndicate are very fortunate to have two forty minute sessions every week, to learn Maori, and other foreign languages.  t is also one of the requirements set down by the Ministry of Education.
Foreign languages include, French, Chinese and Spanish.

 

NEW ZEALAND SCHOOLS 'WATERWISE'

This programme is designed for Year 8 students and will run for 6 weeks on every Wednesday.  They experience things like sailing on Optimistic Yacht, Kayaking and Water safety.  The introduction was done at Teachers College pool and years 7 & 8 had their first session at the Onehunga Bay on Wednesday 21st February.

SPORTS

Atea syndicate have organised sports every Wednesdays from 1:30 - 2:30pm.  All students are required to bring their appropriate sports gear including their change, to school to participate in weekly sports.
We have soccer coaching for 4 weeks , every Monday from 26th Feb 12:45 - 2:45.  Every child is able to enjoy soccer for 30 mins coached by soccer professionals.

SWIMMING
Year 7 children are obliged to take part in swimming at school and should bring their swimming gear on the days of their swimming.  For any reason, a child is not fit to swim, then a note from parents is required.

NTERSCHOOL SPORTS

Interschool Lawn Tennis competition was hosted by our school 28th Feb and we had the following results...
